To achieve the purpose above, the study analyzes data, exploring the relationships between social support of parents and other social status variables and the connections between attitude of cultivation of parents and other background variables; thereafter, a scale for social support and attitude of cultivation of parents with physical and mental handicapped children is developed. The scale demonstrates the present states of social support resources, and the differences among social support of parents from various social backgrounds. It also shows the variations in the strength of different social support resources toward parents of different social status, and the variations in the satisfaction scores given by different background parents receiving support from different social resources. Similarly, the status quos of attitude of cultivation, and the variations in this attitude of parents from different backgrounds are presented. The scale is based on a sampling of 176 cases, of which 4 are not available. After surveying documents, and analyzing the questionnaire results along with interviews, the conclusion is drawn as follows: I. Point of views of parents: 1. They cannot be released from mental pressure and understood by general public. 2. They get little aid in the process of taking care of physical and mental handicapped children. 3. They worry about children’s future. 4. They worry whether children would get married when they become adults. 5. They bother about children’s inability to take care of their daily life on their own. II. Social support: 1. Social support resources are not enough. 2. The strength of social support is not enough and not satisfactory. III. Attitude of cultivation: 1. Mother plays a critical role in deciding family’s attitude of cultivation. 2. Education level of parents affects attitude of cultivation. Finally, suggestions for further research, government’s policy, and general public are provided. Keywords: physical and mental handicapped ; Social support; Attitude of cultivation Ching-Chung Liu 劉慶中 2003 學位論文 ; thesis 344 zh-TW
