This thesis is going to discussing a famous literature and late generation of Huizhou’s merchant, Pan-zhiheng, and his studies of “Art Acting”.
Because of the fevering and popularity from all of the public, scholars, and politician sociality level, the Art Acting have became popular and was been highly developed from the middle of the Ming Dynasty. Singing arts and Acting arts were even reached to the peak which could never be reached. Within the hard practicing and the tough training of the art acting, Art Acting has been performed and viewed differently in every single level of society.
Pan-zhiheng’s Theory of Art Acting can be discussed in the following four parts:
1. Theory of Actors’ Art:
Discussing three characters form actors: talent, performance, and
2. Theory of Acting skill:
Discussing the trainings of art performance, the five rules of “emotion, thinking,
traveling, tone, and singing.”
3. Theory of Singing Art:
Discussing the changing and spreading of “Quan-Shang” style singing, and the importance of pronunciation, pitching, and composing.
4. Theory of “Art Acting enjoyment”:
Discussing the art acting point of views from Pan-zhiheng, and the level of art acting enjoyment he has reached.
Pan-zhiheng’s Theory of Art Acting is established by his own decades art watching experience and most importantly it’s based on the audience’s point of view.
Because of his Huizhou’s merchant’s back ground (which made him had lots chances to be an art audience) and his out-going personality, Pan-zhiheng has more broad and open minded view points referring to Art Acting. Being in the huizhou’s merchant family benefits him, and it is somehow because all of these factors made Pan-zhiheng such a talented and literary Art Acting theoretician in the Ming Dynasty.
