Six elite male cyclists were selected from the previous international competitions ranking on the top three who were interviewed. The study included the training motivations and goal setting of six elite cyclists; their mental preparation before the competitions; their relationship with coaches and resulted the problems facing the training process in relation to the training environment and condition in Taiwan. This study was conducted through qualitative research method based on the in-depth interviews with six selected elite male cyclists. The findings are as follows: 1.The training motivations and goal setting: Four cyclists based on their own intrinsic motivation and interest plus coaches and monetary award. Goal setting assisted cyclists to lead up to the right direction. 2.The psychological preparation before competitions: most cyclists lacked psychological training. They didn’t mind the tough opponents during the competition and they would only concentrate themselves in competitions. When they failed in the competitions, they learnt the lesson from it. For them the most important thing is not just to win or lose but to have done their best in the competitions that important 3.The cyclists’ views towards coaches: Six cyclists preferred combined leadership style. The communication is an important bridge between coaches and cyclists. 4.The problems facing the training process: Cyclists found the difficulty in excelling their levels of performances; Solutions were to make more self-effort and to consult more with coaches and other team members. 5.The training environment and condition in Taiwan: Coaches should improve their knowledge in training; the government should provide more encouragement to the sport of cycling and establish the training center to raise training environment and condition in Taiwan; Setting up laws to protect cyclists and ensure their future career.
