碩士 === 中國文化大學 === 勞動學研究所 === 92 === Abstract
After a labor leaves the school system and can not continue his or her Safety and Health educational program, there is a possibility that lack of such educational programs will lower his/her competitiveness in the job market. If suitable and continuing adult education programs were available to the individuals, the programs can increase his/her competitiveness in the job market. Such programs not only will provide a safer and healthier working environment for the labors in general, but corporations and government agencies also benefit from the drastic reduction and elimination of work-related disaster accidents and occupational illnesses. Consequently, corporations and government agencies can significantly lower their operating costs and needed societal capitals.
In this study, a questionnaire was used to collect data. In this study, 40.63 percent of participants who lives in Taipei, Taiwan, received the Safety and Health knowledge for the first time before they left the school system. However, 50 percent of the same participants felt that their knowledge were inadequate. The same questionnaire was used for the participants in Salt Lake City, United States of America (USA). The result was different, for 46 percent of participants reported receiving first Safety and Health knowledge from workplace instead of the school system. 48 percent of them also felt that their concepts of Safety and Health knowledge were average.
This research was conducted with the cooperation of Taipei Labor Broadcasting, Work FM 91.3. In particular, this research took advantage of the educational broadcasts of the radio station. The educational broadcast is called, “Safety and Health Classes of Work FM91.3 of Taipei.” Volunteers from Taiwan are to participate in this research of “Using Radio broadcasting to studying Safety and Health education”. The objective of this research is to understand that “Are radio educational programs effective on enhancing the Safety and Health training or not?” To test the effectiveness of radio education on Safety and Health education, this research relies on comparing the results of the same Safety and Healthy knowledge exam, “Radio educational programs training and survey,” before and after the radio education. The exam has scoring scale of zero to 100, with 100 being the highest possible score. First result was obtained by administering the exam before the radio education, the average grade of the volunteers is 59.89(n=50).After the radio education, the average grade of volunteers is 81.75(n=50). Volunteers show a clearly improvement of their performances on the second exam when the two exam results are compared.
Also, 51.89 percent of the volunteers indicated that they spent their after-work hours to participate in the Radio educational programs. The volunteers also spent an average of 6.25 hours listening to radio education programs. There is a positive correlation of 0.204 between the length of the time volunteers receiving radio education program and the subsequent improvement of exam grade. Therefore, it is indicative that to acquire updated knowledge of one’s safety and health concepts is to spend more time using the radio to study Safety and Health education. Thus, the positive correlation between lengths of time spent on radio education programs and increasing knowledge of updated Safety and Health information.
From the process of this experimentation, 73.68 percent of all participants believe radio education programs are effective and beneficial on acquiring Safety and Health knowledge. They also believe radio education programs can help them increase their knowledge of Safety and Health concepts. As a result, most of the participants in this research are supportive regarding the effectiveness of Radio Education. But they also suggested that “there are other mediums which are useful in teaching Safety and Healthy Education such as: 1) the television (49%), 2) the internet (30%) and so on. The suggestions tell us that the participants of this experiment have concepts of learning Safety and Healthy Education through diverse mediums.
Last, to have the societal supports of the provisions of diverse learning mediums and environments are important; in the same aspect, to have established self-learning attitudes and senses of working labors are equally significant. Both are key components in raising the safety and health standard of our society.
