Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣科技大學 === 設計研究所 === 92 === When in motion a person’s vision works differently compared to when they are stationary. Distance and various weather factors can affect a drivers’ focus and their ability to judge characters’ legibility. This paper will discuss what influences a driver’s recognition of various Logotypes in different environments, and which features affect the degree of communication when vision is under noise. Scholars used to focus on the main elements of forming characters in fonts, such as stroke-width and combination; however, structure of type comprises the most important feature in characters, like the skeleton in a body. The characters’ appearance depends on the structure of its type. If a type style has a recognized structure, it will benefit and meet the demands of consequent characters design. The first stage of this research is to investigate the application of various fonts in commercial media signboards at Yan-Ming Mountain in Taipei and Wulai area in Taipei County. Then analyze the characteristics and other visual elements that make up the type. The results indicate that type styles used in leisure service industry signboards are inclined to have medium strokes, bold fonts, and a script style of font : A cursive and running style (30.77%), formal style (20%) and li-shu / Han Dynasty Clerical Script style (12.31%); these styles of fonts are classified as calligraphy. The characteristics of strokes in calligraphy tend to be curved and relatively decorative and these are presented along with sensitive and tender images. The results of this investigation into structures of type in commercial media signboards will be taken into account in the second stage; which factors in the structure of type effects drivers’ recognition. These factors are controlled by the typestyle including zhong-yuan style, shao-nu style, cursive-running style and formal style. The second stage of this research is to compare a driver’s vision from one fixed point with his/her vision while in motion. From this, identify the difference in his/her visual experience of typestyles and evaluate what influences recognition. The conclusion reached can be applied in order to benefit drivers’ effective response time whilst driving. In addition, it is to discuss degrees of recognition under conditions of obstructed vision. Using fog effects to impair visibility - 0%, 25%, 50% and 75%, similar to Atmospheric conditions, will test the recognition of the various typestyles. The result will indicate which typestyle is the most effective under a range of visual conditions as well as its limitations. The results show that shao-nu style takes the shortest time to be recognized compared with the other typestyles. It has been shown that zhong-yuan style, shao-nu style, and formal style are more difficult to see. They take more time to be recognized under normal conditions. The average recognition time (threshold)in chronological order is shao-nu style, formal style, zhong-yuan style and cursive — running style. Whether the shao-nu style is seen clearly or not, its features are easily recognized compared to the other styles. It is advised that designers should take the shao-nu style into consideration when designing logotypes in the coming future. The formal style is suitable for locations with little or no visual obstruction, and is the second best option. The zhong-yuan style is the least recognizable under all conditions of visual obstruction. In foggy areas it is advised to use shao-nu style or cursive-running style instead of the zhong-yuan style. The average time for recognition from best to worst is zero visual obstruction, twenty-five percentage of visual obstruction, seventy-five percentage of visual obstruction and fifty percentage of visual obstruction. The threshold is 0.870 sec. On the whole, the greater the degree of visual obstruction the more time recognition is taking. In accordance with other scholars’ research - the greater the visual noise ratio the more affected is a person’s visual acuity with an increased recognition time.
