It had been conducted in two phases:First phases was studying mechanical properties of the furan resin bulk specimen;including the effect of catalyst adding amount on the hardness, tensile strength, compressive strength and fracture mode of the furan resin bulk specimen; Second phases was studying compressive strength of the furan mold specimen, included the effect of catalyst adding amount, environments and curing time on the compressive strength and fracture mode of the furan mold specimen. The raw materials for synthetic furan resin are Urea-furfuryl alcohol furan resin and papa-Toluenesulfonic acid. The experimental results show that: (1) Three studied furan resin bulks have same levels of hardness and tensile strength, but the compressive strength of the cured resin specimen was the highest for the one of 40% catalyst addition, and followed with 45 and 35% additions; (2) The ratio of tensile strength and compressive strength of furan resin range between 1.34 and 1.52, and a value of 1.52 was the highest for the one of 40% catalyst addition; (3) After the molding for 4、8、24 hours, the compressive strength was the highest for the one of 45% catalyst addition, and followed with 35 and 40% additions; (4).The curing kinetics of furan sand mould can be described by the First Order Exponential Decay Equation, with a reaction time constant as 2~3 hours.
