The experimental results exhibited no azeotrope formation. These binary VLE data were correlated satisfactorily with the NRTL-HOC and the UNIQUAC-HOC models, respectively. The NRTL parameters of methanol/adipic acid and water/adipic acid were also determined from the saturated pressures of binary system of methanol +adipic acid and those of ternary system of water + methanol + adipic acid. The saturated pressures of the ternary system can be predicted to within reasonable accuracy when the NRTL parameters of methanol/adipic acid and water /adipic acid where obtained from the solid-liquid equilibrium data. These VLE data and model parameters are required for the process development of recovery of adipic acid from the waste stream with reactive distillation method.
