In daily operation of Taiwan power system, two problems have been observed. One is the low bus voltage on Omei substation; and the other is the severe voltage oscillation on important substations after a three phase bus fault at the Chungliao South bus. In this thesis, improvement of the low bus voltage on Omei substation with the two types of reactive power compensators will be discussed. Moreover, to suppress acute oscillation following a three phase fault at the Chungliao South bus, the damping ability of reactive power compensators will be investigated. It is found that STATCOM has better performance on improvement of low bus voltage at Omei and SVC performs better in suppressing dynamic voltage oscillation. In daily operation of Taiwan power system, two problems have been observed. One is the low bus voltage on Omei substation; and the other is the severe voltage oscillation on important substations after a three phase bus fault at the Chungliao South bus.
