Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 商學研究所 === 92 === The PSTN traditional telecommunications system has been used for many years and plays an important role in the transmission of voice. Today, the environment is changing at an accelerating rate, so the need for real time communication and information is greater than at any time in the past. Especially to transnational companies which own and operate manufacturing or service businesses in more than one country, the critical issue is to develop an effective internal communications system to communicate with branches worldwide and integrate the dispersed resources. Unfortunately, the use of the traditional telephone system will lead to the high cost of long-distance communication. Hence, managers try to use technologies to change this situation.
In order to lower the communication cost effectively and help transnational companies to stay competitive, we develop a new communications system by using the VoIP technology. Voice over IP ( VoIP ) is a technology that was introduced in the last decade to allow real time voice communications on packet networks that utilize the Internet Protocol (IP). It is different from the traditional telephone system in transmitting voice over the IP network rather than over a traditional circuit switched network.
The focus of this paper is to derive a new enterprise telecommunications system solution for how to build the VoIP telecommunications system by the gateway approach. The new system proposed in this document mainly consists of new VoIP system structure and a systematic dial plan. The new VoIP enterprise communications system for transnational companies is not only easy to build on our own but also easy to manage. Managers will be able to upgrade their own communications system with the least investment. Through this new VoIP enterprise communications system, employees who wish to communicate with other people in the overseas branch office, no longer have to pay international toll fees that increase along with the minutes used.
The use of the new VoIP enterprise communications system results in substantial cost saving and competitive priority. However, a move to the new VoIP communications system portends more than just making cheap long distance calls. In addition, the basic VoIP architecture allows for applications that are not available from today''s PSTN voice switching equipment. New applications include Internet fax, multimedia collaboration, UMS and so on. The new applications could all make operational processes more quickly and effectively.
