Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 獸醫學研究所 === 92 === Abstract This survey aimed to establish blood pressure references of geriatric dogs with ultrasonic Doppler flow detector, and to investigate the influence of age, breed, sex, body weight, and body condition on blood pressure. Those can be clinical references for managing diseases of geriatric dog. Additionally, in order to decrease the stress of blood pressure measurement, we built a simple model for choosing cuff sizes. Finally, we compared ultrasonic Doppler flow detector with MEMOPRINT® (oscillometry), and tried to set up a model for measuring blood pressure at home. Two hundreds and seven dogs were studied. One hundred and thirty-six geriatric dogs and 71 control dogs were evaluated by measuring BP. The mean BP of geriatric dogs was 157.9 ± 24.4 mmHg. Values of systolic BP more than 206.7 mmHg were defined as hypertension, and those less than 109.1 mmHg were defined as hypotension. The systolic BP measurements between 189.2 and 206.7 mmHg were determined as suspected hypertension, and those between 109.1 and 126.6 mmHg were determined as suspected hypotension. The mean BP of control dogs was 150.8 ± 22.3 mmHg. Values of systolic BP more than 195.4 mmHg were defined as hypertension, and those less than 106.2 mmHg were defined as hypotension. The systolic BP measurements between 179.4 and 195.4 mmHg were determined as suspected hypertension, and those between 106.2 and 122.2 mmHg were determined as suspected hypotension. Systolic BP values were significantly higher in the geriatric dogs as compared to the control dogs (P=0.04). Blood pressure might change as a waved type with age. Dogs showed lower BP when they were 3 to 4, 7 to 8, 11 to 12 and 15 to 16. Shih-Tzu presented higher BP than other breeds in both geriatric and control dogs. There were no significantly correlations between BP and sex, body weight, and body condition. A simple model was set up for choosing suitable cuff sizes by body weight. The model is “Cuff = 40% x ( 5.8 + 0.2W )” or simplified to “Cuff = 40% x ( 6 + 0.2W )”. The accuracy of choosing suitable cuff sizes by the model is 72.7 to 77.3%. There was a poor correlation between ultrasonic Doppler flow detector with MEMOPRINT® so MEMOPRINT® couldn’t be a substitution for ultrasonic Doppler flow detector. It would be better to use ultrasonic Doppler flow detector or other reliable BP monitors for BP measurement in clinical situation.
