During the period, he completed illustrations for 109 books, including his own books, and more on textbooks, newspapers, and magazines. This paper probes into the topics of Liou Bor-leh and children’s literature, Liou Bor-leh’s illustrations, picture books, and other picture books based on Liou Bor-leh’s illustrations. The results are as follow: 1.Liou Bor-leh’s childhood experience, namely playing in the fields, and his working experience as an art designer in the children’s books editing group of the former Ministry of Education have significant influence on his illustrations. 2.As he established his style after the exploration period in his early days in drawing, he is skilled in the variation of lines created by dip-pen, and mixed with color ink, color pencil, and famille rose to create pictures of unique touch. 3.His choice of themes is mainly characters in the rural area of Taiwan and sceneries. He pays exceptional attention to the details in the folk life and the scenes to depict the most authentic life in Taiwan, such as T-shirt with Taiwanese characters, people sitting on wooden stools with their legs crossed in the countryside, female peasants wearing leaf hat and cotton prints without only two eyes revealed, and residential houses surrounded by bamboo fences, electric poles, and disarrayed antennas. 4.In children’s books market, where cute and big-eyes characters are the norms, Liou Bor-leh created unique local characters with long eyes and slim fingers in simple lines. 5.Liou Bor-leh preferred to illustrate with his impression of Taiwan as the backdrop, and conveyed his concern for the natural environment in his illustrations and books. Liou Bor-leh has been drawing for 26 years, and still has new works that contain his unique characteristics and the features of Taiwan coming out every year.
