As it’s goal, this study hopes to take counseling in creative performance to enhance the development of physically and mentally handicapped children’s benign interpersonal relations and promote the self-concepts of physically and mentally handicapped students to sharpen their future development. This study adopted the method of case study, and 4 physically and mentally handicapped students from Grade 5 of Public Pei-Shih Elementary School in Sha-Lu Town, Taichung County were the research subjects. It pinpointed the research subjects in carrying-out group counseling methodology. Each week, one forty-minute class of creative drama was given. The research results were: 1.) The 4 physically and mentally handicapped students who received “creative drama group counseling” had significant progressive results in 5 category table items of self-concepts: self-concept in the household, self-concept in school, self-concept in outer appearance, self-concept in body and emotional self-concept. 2.) Regarding their interpersonal relations with other students in their classes, the 4 physically and mentally handicapped students who received “creative drama group counseling” had significant progressive results in number of times rejected, number of times accepted, and Tien-ma Index from their classmates. 3.) During the time period that the four physically and mentally handicapped students received and participated in “creative drama group counseling”, their participation behavior had significantly progressive results for all categories of psychological behavior: disruptive behavior, compliance behavior, socially interactive behavior, behavior in self-expression, behavior in sharing, behavior in assisting, solitary behavior and distracted behavior. 4.) The results of the interviews reveal that the 4 physically and mentally handicapped students had more self-confidence, better social interactions, and were more courageous in expressing themselves than before they received drama counseling. The researchers added a discussion and addressed recommendations on the basis of the study’s results and findings in order to bring creative drama group activities into effect and to serve as a reference for follow up research.
