They can be used to treat different kinds of bacteria infections. The abuse of antimicrobial agents will cause the emergency of resistant strains. Therefore, in year 2001, the BNHI issued the “General Payment Regulations for the Use of Antimicrobial Agents” to rationalize the usage of antimicrobial agents and decrease the production of resistant strains. The global expense of using antimicrobial agents is extremely huge. The total sales amount of drugs in Taiwan during 2003 is 94.37 billion NTD. The sales of antimicrobial system is 9.64 billion(8.47 billion NTD in the hospital market, 1.17 billion NTD in the clinics and drugstores), about 10% of total sales amount of drugs. By understanding the sales situation of antimicrobial agents, it can help medical facilities to improve and decrease the conditions of using antimicrobial agents improperly. It can also help BNHI to control medical budgets more efficiently. It can even help pharmaceuticals to set up or adjust annual sales plan or review sales accomplishments. Using Classical Time Series Decomposition (X-11),this study takes the sales of every antimicrobial agents in hospital markets between 1994 to 2003 as the examples and analyzes if the sales of each antimicrobial agent is influenced by different seasons due to the seasonal trend of infections. In the same time, discuss their competitive capabilities by the different sales trends of each antimicrobial agents . The result of some researches show that the sales of following preparations possess stable seasonal change (F<0.05): Broad Spectrum Penicillins (J01C),Trimethoprim and Similar Formulations (J01E) , Macrolides and Similar Types (J01F), Medium & Narrow Spectrum Penicillins (J01H). The following preparations possess moving seasonal change (F<0.05): Medium & Narrow Spectrum Penicillins (J01H), Rifampicin/ Rifamycin (J01M) and other Antibiotics- Glycopeptide preparations (J01X). This study also found that the sales of every antimicrobial agents in hospital markets between 1994 to 2003 are affected by the policy of NHIB, it resulted in the sales of antibiotics in local market during past decade being with retarded or negative growth.
