Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立台北師範學院 === 教育政策與管理研究所 === 92 === The Perception and Practice of Elementary School Principals in Taipei City and County on Multiculture Education Abstract The purpose of this study is to understand the correlation between the perception of multiculture education and its actual practice among elementary school principals in Taipei city and county. Furthermore, it has analyzed the potential difficulties in putting multiculture education into practice and has proposed corresponding solutions to the education authorities, school principal inservice education programs, and elementary school principals. Employing questionnaire survey, this study consists of data collecting from elementary school principals in Taipei city on the perception and actual practice of multiculture education in current stage as well as setting up focus groups to understand the difficulties of putting multiculture education into practice and possible solutions and strategies to solve the problems, and furthermore to explore the groups’ feedback to the aggregated result of the questionnaire. According to the above method, this study has reached the following conclusions: 1. The overall perception level of multiculture education among elementary school principals in Taipei city and county is mediocre. 2. “Whether a respondent has received professional training on multiculture education” is the only variable among many that has reached statistical significance to show its correlation to the level of perception to multiculture education among elementary school principals in Taipei city and county. 3. The overall level of actual practice of multiculture education among elementary school principals in Taipei city and county is high. 4. “Whether a respondent has received professional training on multiculture education” is the only variable among many that has reached statistical significance to show its correlation to the level of actual practice to multiculture education among elementary school principals in Taipei city and county. 5. There is a positive correlation between the perception and actual practice of multiculture education among elementary school principals in Taipei city and county. 6. Among the difficulties in putting multiculture education into practice, the top-two most recognized are as follows: i. Teachers lack experience and inservice education to the related course planning and teaching skills; ii. Lack of appropriate teaching materials and course curriculum development. Facing the difficulties to put multi culture education into actual practice, “provide further inservice education to teachers and encourage their discourse with professionals” and “provide related teaching-materials and media” are the best solutions. According to the above conclusions, this study has provided several suggestions such as “enhance the perception level of multiculture education to principals through preservice and inservice education programs,” “establish related forums for principals to share their experience and to bring actual practice into research,” and “encourage inter-school and international exchange programs” to the education authorities, school principal training programs, elementary school principals, and future studies.
