Therefore, the purpose of this study is to probe into the effect of reading science books for children, on the ability of the science and technology learning areas of the fifth graders. There are four purposes for this study: 1.To explore the effect of reading science books for children, like Little Newton magazine, on the ability of the Science Cognition Competence Indicators of the science and technology learning areas of the fifth graders. 2.To explore the effect of reading science books for children, like Little Newton magazine, on the ability of the Science Attitude Competence Indicators of the science and technology learning areas of the fifth graders. 3.To explore the effect of reading science books for children, like Little Newton magazine, on the ability of the Aspect of Thinking Competence Indicators of the science and technology learning areas of the fifth graders. 4.To explore the response of fifth graders reading science books for children. The study starts with the quasi-experimental designs of a non-equivalent pretest-posttest control design. It was taken 60 fifth graders from the Technology Elementary School for reading activities standing 10 weeks. By developing the “Test of Science Cognition” and “Science Attitudes Scale” based on grade 1-9 curriculum to analyze and test with one way ANOVA and analyze with the contents of Aspect of Thinking Test and the Questionnaire of reading science books for children, to understand the effect of reading these science books for children, on students aspect of thinking and the reaction and perception of reading. According to the analytic result of documents, there are the following findings: 1.Reading Little Newton magazine can,t promote the ability of the science and technology learning areas of the fifth graders and the Science Cognitive Competence Indicators. 2.As the result of the test of “Science Attitudes Scale” based on grade 1-9 curriculum, reading the Little Newton magazine can,t promote the ability of the science and technology learning areas and the Science Attitude Competence Indicators. 3.Reading Little Newton magazine can,t promote the ability of fifth graders science and technology learning areas and Aspect of thinking Competence Indicators. 4.The result of the analysis of reading science books for children activity questionnaire survey, shows that after reading the science books for children, like Little Newton magazine, that most of the fifth graders, have positive and active responses. Finally, based on what has been found of this study, it provides a beneficial suggestion to teachers, teaching and the future research.
