The instruments employed in this study are the Rhythm Imagery Tests of Musical Aptitude Profile (MAP) for rhythm perception, and a questionnaire developed by the researcher for information of children’s home environment and music experience. The Rhythm Imagery Tests consist of tempo and meter tests. The subjects, consisted of 1105 children from fourth to sixth grades, were selected from nine elementary schools in Taiwan. The data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way analysis of variance, product-moment correlation, and a posteriori comparisons of Scheffé method. The results are as follows: 1. The status of fourth to sixth grades Taiwanese children’s rhythm perception. (1)The children’s mean score in rhythm test is 62.73; the standard deviation is 7.68; the frequency distribution showed the right skewness and the leptokurtic distribution, indicated that the number of children who scored higher than mean score were more than that who scored lower. (2)Tempo perception was significantly better than that of meter. (3)Rhythm perception increased with grades. (4)Girls’ rhythm perception was significantly better than that of boys’; the difference between genders increased with grades. 2、The relationship between children’s rhythm perception and home environment and music experience. (1)Test results indicates significant positive correlation between children’s rhythm perception and home environment and music experience, although the value were small. (2)The correlation coefficient value between children’s rhythm perception and home environment were lower than that with music experience. (3)Among the factors of home environment, ”family’s support” had the highest correlation coefficient; among the factors of music experience, “learning a musical instrument” had highest correlation coefficient. (4)Among the factors of attitude, “positive attitude toward music” had highest correlation coefficient; among the factors of musical activity, “listening to classical music and folk songs” had highest correlation coefficient. 碩士 === 國立台北師範學院 === 教育心理與輔導學系碩士班 === 92 === The purpose of this study is to investigate the rhythm perception of fourth to sixth grades Taiwanese children, and its relation with environment and music experience.
The results are as follows:
