At the beginning, the molten alloy is poured into a shot sleeve and is pushed into a cavity by plunger. If there is mount of air inside the mold-cavity, that may cause failure of filling in castings like gas porosity during filling process, which has an adverse effect on the mechanical properties of the castings. To avoid that, adding vents in mold design is used to prompt air escapement or enclosing a vacuum to decrease air content in the mold, before filling the cavity. But, a high plunger speed can create surface wave roll over and a low plunger speed can create wave reflections. Both cases can cause air entrapment and push residual air in the shot sleeve into mold-cavity, that increases air content in the mold-cavity. The behavior of melt-flow in the shot sleeve is most influence to mold-filling. The research is to study the effect of die-casting parameters which are diameter of sleeve, filling rate, low velocity of the plunge, the ability of acceleration, etc.. It is built on using application software to simulate the effect of die-casting varying parameters to molten aluminum alloy and planning by Taguchi Method.
