The purpose of this thesis is to apply fuzzy control to electro-hydraulic systems and study and compare the results of the systems between the traditional PID control and the fuzzy control. Electro-hydraulic systems are rigid with pretty high natural frequency. Dynamic behavior of electro-hydraulic systems is highly nonlinear and responds fast with any change of inputs. Application of fuzzy theory to electro-hydraulic systems is based on the knowledge and understanding of the systems. To acquire the best behavior of electro-hydraulic systems relies on adjustments of the control parameters of fuzzy control. Noise is considered to match the application of such a system on merchant ship and results are analyzed and compared between PID control and fuzzy control.
