At that time, most area of An-ping district was fish nursery and most population of the district lived at An-ping Village. Therefore, before the implementation of urban renewal and redevelopment plan, An-ping Village can be viewed as An-ping district. At 1969, the first stage of urban renewal and redevelopment plan was implemented. The plan extended the building site of An-ping village and the provided more space for the increasing population. The fifth stage of urban renewal and redevelopment plan, which was implemented at 1981, brought critical change to the An-ping area. Because the government reclaimed the land from old fish nursery and extended the building site, An-ping Village had more space for development and the construction of the community had been changed. The factors of effecting the development of An-ping Village, besides the general change of entire social environment, also includes the decline of fishing industry, the implementation of urban renewal and redevelopment plans and the promotion of culture development plans. An-ping port had been an important harbor while Taiwan’s inshore fishery grew fast during 1960s and 1970s. During that period the fishery and the manufacture of metal, ship and plastic were main industries of the An-ping community. However, due to the decrease of inshore fish recourse, diminution of fish nursery and the change of job opportunities, the fishery of An-ping Village have declined. The development and change of An-ping village was reflected in the population of village and the local religion leader culture. The population of the village increased from eight thousand in early 1950s to about sixteen thousand in 1960s. After that, the population of the village declined and the original nine sections of the village were reset to five. The change of village population was also reflection in the change of local religion leader culture. There were six religion leaders at An-ping Village. The local religion leaders culture tied with the activities of religious festival. While the constitution of population changing, people did not involve in religious festival as much as before, and the relationship of the local religion leader culture and residents of An-ping Village became loose. The local religion organizations became loose and voluntary. The An-ping Village became dreary since the traditional industries declined. However, in the late 90s, the local culture has been regarded seriously again by the society. Many culture activities focused on the An-ping area and brought the current of researching the An-ping area. Furthermore, the Tainan city government recently invests lots of resource to reform the An-ping area as the popular sight of Tainan. A surge of shoppers brings quite a respectable business to the area. Yan-ping Street and An-ping Road from a new An-ping image shopping circle. The shopping circle, combined with Old Fort of An-ping and An-ping old streets, become one of the main sights. Most of stores provide famous vendor-snack, sugar coated fruits, handicrafts and soft drink, and this become a newly growing industry of the area. This article mainly discusses the development of An-ping Village after World War II.
