The goal can be divided in the following aspects: 1. To understand the availability of appling an “Interval Aural Ability Training”(IAAT) program to melodic teaching. 2. To discuss the difficulties and solutions when carrying out the application of the program to melodic teaching. 3. To discuss students reactions to the application of the program to melodic teaching . In connection with the above goal, the researcher sampled 29 sixth grade students from a single in a Tainan, Taiwan school district . Six regulated IAAT programs were then applied to melody-teaching class. The duration of this action research lasted 14 weeks, one class a week, 40 minutes a class. Through the practice of teaching and editing teaching material, as well as the generalization and analysis of talking, interviews, reflective journals, effects of students’ learning, and the examination of students’ questionnaires. The following conclusions can be obtained: 1. The IAAT combined with teaching materials, such as singing songs, playing musical instruments, and the appreciation of music. Students can learn systemically. 2. Through the practice of appling the IAAT program to melody teaching, students learn very well at sightsinging and listening differentiation. 3. The application of the IAAT program to melody teaching, resulted in majority of students having joyful emotions contributing to an active learning attitude. 4. Teaching by method of tonic solfa, students built up interval aural ability. 5. The majority of students had positive and supportive attitudes toward the IAAT program when applied to melody teaching. Lastly, this studies findings suggest further research in three different areas: 1. The design of teaching and student materials for applying the IAAT program. 2. The desing of teching methods in applying the IAAT program. 3. Future study, in hope of providing educational workers with references for related research and teaching.
