But reducing the dimensions of clearances will increase the viscous shear. This thesis focus on the relationship of power consumption and the clearances in a spur gear pump. This thesis involved a finite-difference method to analyse the end face of gear. The object of this thesis is to find the optimum clearances of a spur gear pump to minimize the power consumptions.
