The samples were from 2055 women who had been take care by midwives from Jun. 1996 to Dec.2002. We chose 13 women who were been cared by midwives in these 2 and half years recently, and through semi-structured questions as designed. From descriptive research and content analysis steps of research, the result demonstrated: (1) there were 218 women(10.7%) under 20 year-old, and 447 women(21.9%) never participated the National Health Insurance from 2041 women who been accepted by birth outcomes, both were higher than countrywide norm. (2) the outcome of indicator: 1. maternal mortality rates: 48.9/100000. 2. vaginal birth rates: 99.3%. 3. rate of successful vaginal births after cesarean section: 100%. 4. cause dystocia or pregnant women and families asked for cesarean section: 0.68%. 5. episiotomy rates:50.4%. 6. the 1st min. to 5th min. Apgar score from new born were higher or equal 7. 7. new born weight<2500gm were highest in 4 areas from eastern midwives’ clinics was 11.8%. (3) from interviewer women experiences found, midwives can be “ satisfied and safe” to offer the class designed for pregnant women, and able to “ really understand” and offer the body, soul, and mind caring for pregnant women, “ respect women” and also “ pregnant women felt themselves were main bodies during childbirth period,” participated her health, process of childbirth, decision and responsibility of health caring. According to the result of this study, try to arouse the medical policy makers can be think highly of midwives. The study still demonstrated the private midwives’ value in caring was important in mountain areas and city pregnant women and babies. Also to let people know the different birth, including the quality guarantee of indicator, ex: vaginal birth rate, cesarean section rates, VBAC rate, episiotomy rates, Apgar score, low birth weight…else, could be useful for birth outcomes and practice to different birth units of appraising and supervising.
