The system is developed via Object-Oriented program, ObjectARX, and ActiveX. The study integrated different types of concepts, such as the object linking and embedding technique, database principle, user interface developed program (Visual Basic) and graphic program VBA and Visual LISP. The study has completed an irrigation and drainage channel design support system which can practically be used. Within the system, it includes channel hydraulics computation object, basic cross-section database object, design parameters input object, automation design-graph drawing object, materials computation object, and database maintenance object. The features of the developed system are as followings. (1)The system provides a pull-in-down select sheet, which can easily connect database or files to assist engineering design and it can look up, edit simultaneously by different users, which improve the traditional input approach and achieve the purpose of sharing information and cooperation in design. (2)The system use interactive and user-friendly dialogue to help the users inputting the engineering design parameters conveniently. (3)The system can compute the channel hydraulics based on the input parameters, and can draw the engineering graph automatically according to the computed results. It not only saves a lot of drawing time, but also can be used as reference for future revision. (4)The system provided multiple functions, such as creating, importing, transferring and exporting for easy managing the channel longitudinal and latitudinal cross-section basic data. (5)The user can create multiple windows environment for different work at the same time. The system also can be executed in the Internet environment, which shows the potential of future developing of this system. (6)Through the integrated linking database, the user can convert the computed amount of design materials without difficulty to Office Excel for a formed output.
