Totally, 317 students who studied in elementary schools in Pintung city and Pintung county were investigated. They belong to three different groups, indigenes students, students of general calasses, and students of music-gifted classes. Two questionnires were use in the study, Gordon’s intermediate measures of music audiation and a self-composed “Survery of children’s music environment”. The study revealed the following. 1. Music aptitude and music environment of students in music-gifted classes was superior than two other groups of students. 2. Music aptitude of indigenes at grade one and grade two was lower than that of general students. However, it was opposite when students reached grade three and grade four. 3. Music aptitude and music environment of girls in general classes were superior than boys. Both girls in indigenes group and in music-gifted group scored higher in music environment than boys. 4. Music aptitude of indigenes grew with grades. 5. Music aptitude was significantly correlated with music environment. Implications and future studies concerning practice in music teaching were discussed. Abstract
The purposes of this study were to compare music aptitude and music environment among three different groups of students at elementary schools, and to explore the effects of gender and sex upon music aptitude and music environment.
Totally, 317 students who studied in elementary schools in Pintung city and Pintung county were investigated. They belong to three different groups, indigenes students, students of general calasses, and students of music-gifted classes.
