The formation of a sense of community among the volunteers who participated in the program is also investigated. The study is divided into six chapters and the research results are listed as follows: Conclusion I: Characteristics of community program developed in Yuan Lin Zi Community 1. The community program developed and implemented made efficient use of government resources, leading to high levels of public awareness as the program was initiated. 2. The activities for adult education were used to demonstrate the need and importance of public participation within the community. 3. The program was developed to integrate the necessary resources from a diversified community. 4. The initial stages of program implementation were met with public skepticism and indifference. However, these barriers were overcome with the use of mass media, presentation from respected scholars, and various government resources. 5. The program agenda was developed based on the local surroundings and the community environment. Activities were organized taking into careful account the needs and capabilities of the community. Participation from residents outside of the community was also encouraged. This was found to have a very positive impact to the program. 6. Questionnaires and interviews were solicited from the public. This public input was used for future research purposes. In addition, the information provided allowed the program administrators to understand the needs community and provide more effective care. 7. The role of the program director contributes significantly to the level of public participation to the program. In particular, the program director’s experience and planning significantly affects the program’s success. Conclusion II: Factors influencing the formation of a volunteer’s sense of community 1. Awareness of the Need to Change Solitude: Volunteers learned to know the community environment through field investigations, recognizing the advantage of community over isolationism. 2. Knowledge of community learned: Volunteers learned about the history of the community through historic records and interviews with respectable seniors in the community. Through these actions, they developed community pride and identity. 3. Consensus Building of Families: The participation of extended families can have significant impact towards the positive development and implementation of the community program. The participants realize that they are empowered through their contributions to the community program. 4. Community volunteers took part in the program’s activities voluntarily, and joined the workshops and visits together. Strong community awareness was developed.
