Compared with the 3D drawings, the 2D drawings are complic and difficult to identify their interference. Therefore, the 3D drawings for stamping die of carbody are more and more popular around the world. If 2D drawings is replaced by 3D drawings for stamping die design of carbody will influence current die design system and methodology. It is necessary to develop the 3D die design system for stamping die of carbody. The objective of this thesis is to study 3D stamping die design system of carbody by the example of drawing die. The system is based on CATIA(3D computer aided design software)and applied to construct customization environment with VBA(object-oriented programming). The system consists of a die design database, an interactive interface, a help assistant, proposing values hint, and dynamic update of parameters. General speaking, the die surface must be repaired before the die structure is constructed. After that, to build die structure, the initial conditions, which are the punch open line, the press information, the ram stroke length, the shut height, etc are imported. Then the die structure is generated and design variables are imported step by step, until the die structures are completely. The 3D computer aided design system for stamping die of carbody is a constructed standard architecture. The result shows that it can prevent interference and increase design efficiency.
