Villagers moved to Longshan Village at 1846, and they opened the canal at 1918 under the guide of Lord T. From that time on, the belt canal became a special culture landscape of this village, which filled with memories and deep feelings of villagers. However, it is getting less important today, because of no more usage of irrigation or fish feeding. Furthermore, the pollution of canal is getting worse because of family wastewater and the increasing of tourists. Artificial wetland is a water pollution control solution that is much more energy saves, and a cheaper, easier one. But, this research will show that only religion on a system of community reconstruction, the engineering of artificial wetland could success. Thus, the restoration of Longshan Village belt canal is not only a matter of environmental issue, but also of a public place for village. Now, by means of artificial wetland to clean family wastewater is still at a stage of beginning in Taiwan. It is not enough to have the knowledge of environmental engineer/ biology/ landscape. The development of village about nature and culture is often ignored. They duplicated the same way by traditional engineering without considering the conditions of the surroundings. In this research, the author plans to convert a 0.3 hectare scrapped fishpond into an artificial wetland. It could make the water clean, constructing a traditional settlement hydraulic system and environment restore system. After the project of Longshan Village is completely, we hope that the belt canal will become a central place for the further development of Longshan Village .
