Background   Demands of providing care to impaired patients frequently result in strain and depressive symptomatology for family caregivers in the home health care settings. These outcome of care-giving may be affected by level of patient dependency, caregiver’s health, felling too many demands were being made on the caregiver, feeling torn between the patient’s need and the caregiver’s own needs, not getting enough rest, amount of time spent in caregiving activities, feeling someone else could take over caregiving if necessary, and many other factor.     We would like to study the factors affecting self-reported health status for family caregivers of impaired patients in the home care setting. The results would be helpful for the caring of these populations who are with high risks of poor health.     Subject and Methods   We will investigate a group of family caregivers of impaired patients who are receiving our home health care services. The outcomes of care-giving will be:1) self-reported health status(assessed by SF-36);2) the severity of caregiver’s depression (assessed by Zung’ depression scale)A structured questionnaire will be used to assess family function (assessed by family APGAR score),life style, diseases, resources, level of patient dependency and other possible risk factors affection the health status of family caregivers. The data will be analyzed for cross sectional studies. Chi-square test will be used for the comparison of categorical data; two-sample t-test will be use for continuous variables.
