碩士 === 國立花蓮師範學院 === 鄉土文化研究所 === 92 === The main purpose of this study is to acquire clear picture of Taiwan history during the Dutch and the Spanish periods, by pointing out and defining translation mistakes that exist in Chinese literatures of above mentioned periods’ Taiwan history. The study of Spanish period in Taiwan history, as we have seen, does not deserve the academia’s attention. This has led to inappropriate Chinese translation and wrong transcription toward the Spanish documents. Therefore, in this thesis I will analyze some principal problems in Chinese translation and try to resolve it. In addition, concerning to the Dutch period, we have seen a large quantity of Chinese translation in the historical documents, and also has much historical misinterpretation. In this study I will take some examples in translation toward the Dutch documents to investigate the problems and curious historical picture derived from wrong Chinese translation. By discussing translation problems, I attempt to call the academia’s attention to the Chinese translation of Dutch documents. Finally, I retell the “The Rebellion led by Kuo Huai-i on Taiwan in 1652” and ”Cheng Ch’eng-Kung’s disembarkation in Tainan”, attempting to interpret the importance of correct and appropriate Chinese translation for Taiwan history analysis.
