Based on “Theory of mental self-government” and the “Thinking Styles Inventory” (Sternberg, 1997), the “Thinking Styles Inventory for Children”(TSI-C) was developed. The TSI-C consists 13 thinking styles:legislative, executive, judicial, monarchic, hierarchic, oligarchic, anarchic, global, local, internal, external, liberal and conservative. The validation of the instrument was examined, too. Five hundred fifty two 5th and 6th grade children from Tao-Yuan, Hsin-Chu and Miao-Li counties took the TSI-C and “Creativity Assessment Packet”(CAP), which consists fluency, openness, flexibility, originality, elaboration and title. Data were analyzed by t-test, Pearson’s correlation, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The major findings of this study were summarized as follow: 1.The “Thinking Styles Inventory for Children” had the good reliability and validity, and the result partially supported the theory of mental self-government. 2.Comparing to boys, girls showed more executive and judicial styles; then 6th grade students, 5th grade students showed more executive, local, and conservative styles. 3.The 5th and 6th graders performed well in the “Creativity Assessment Packet”. Girls were doing better in fluency, openness, flexibility and title of CAP. 4.Significant correlations were found between the judicial style and fluency; the liberal, conservative styles and openness; the hierarchic style and flexibility; the legislative, judicial, anarchic, global, liberal styles and title. No Significant correlation was found between thinking styles and elaboration. 5.To some extent, some of the thinking styles could predict the CAP, including the prediction of the anarchic and hierarchic styles on flexibility; the global, legislative, and internal styles on originality; the judicial style on title. Gender could ordinarily predict fluency, flexibility and title. No correlation between grade and creativity. 王振世 2004 學位論文 ; thesis 104 zh-TW
