Eight elementary school teachers from north, middle, south and eastern regions of Taiwan were selected for interviews in this qualitative study. Literature review, questionnaire survey, and document analysis were used to collect data. The results indicate the following six conclusions: (1)Veteran visual art teachers had special art experience in their early age and had carried it on through their professional development. Role models and caring the arts are the main reasons for them to engage art education. (2)Veteran visual art teachers’ understanding about teaching concept changes from time to time. (3)The requirements for a good visual art educator include sensitivity, involvement, knowledge and skills, enthusiasm, and creativity. Methods for professional development include workshop and professional society participation, team work, resource usage, portfolio establishment, and long life learning. (4)Veteran visual art teachers confirm the concepts of the nine-year integrated curriculum of arts and humanities, but worry its policy and implementation. (5) Visual art teachers should be intensified their professional role in order to advocate visual art education at higher administrative positions. (6) Visual art education should be drawn the attention in the future. Actions include forming resource exchange center, gathering art educators, building new teaching system of art teachers.
