Summary: | 碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 家庭教育研究所 === 92 === Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the lived experience of those Taiwanese men who married foreign spouses. The researcher looked for the meaning behind the experience, using hermeneutic phenomenological methodology and tried to explain the meaning of human experience through the process of mutual dialogues and understanding. Semi-structured in-depth interview was adopted in this study. Texts were collected from nine men who were interviewed from once to three times and each interview took 60 to 150 minutes. All conversational interviews were converted into verbatim transcriptions. Through thematic analysis, and group confirmation and clarification, four themes appeared as the lived experience of these interviewees.
They are (1) The path to marrying a woman in Taiwan is rugged, but seeking a wife abroad can fulfill the dream. (2) I experience many troubles in the international marriage, and get many kinds of feeling in my heart. (3) I take burdens of marriage and family on my shoulders, and hope to create a happy family. (4) Looking back the struggled road I have taken, I accept it and never give up.
At the end of this study, some discussions and reflections as well as conclusions were presented. Hopefully, the valuable information could help to promote educational practices and enhance decision-making at the local and governmental levels. At the same time, some implications were presented for the government, the public, those men who want to marry foreign spouses, and the family educators. Finally, some suggestions were provided for future research.
