Summary: | 碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 輔導與諮商學系 === 92 === The purpose of this study was to explore the function of family system before and after adolescents who engage in deliberate self-harm . Depth interview was applied to five adolescents with deliberate self-harm experience, and the research data were analyzed in the aspect of phenomenology.
Several findings were disclosed in this research:
A.The spouse subsystems were dysfunctional in these families.
B. The boundary between adolescent with deliberate self- harm experience and their primary caregiver was not clear. Primary caregivers dominate these adolescent at his or her will, and the parental relationship was conflicting.
C. The boundary between these adolescent’s siblings and their primary caregiver was rigid, and their parental relationship was distant.
D.The power structure in these families was stable and unbalanced. The primary caregiver discipline their children by means of violence.
E. The family rules were fixed and dysfunctional.
F. Adolescents with deliberate self-harm experience were usually ignored by their family members.
G. Besides adolescents who have deliberate self-harm experience, deliberate self-harm experience can also be found among other in these family members.
Most of all, self-harm behavior can help these adolescents avoid family conflict. Whether such behavior could influence family structure or not, depends on the intensity of the self-harm action.
The research also proposes several suggestions to counseling professionals and for further researches in addition to the results and discussions.
