Stimulated by the advance in information technology, the Supply Chain System in many enterprises have been undergoing rapid transformation because of the emergence of the new customer-oriented business model and the global logistics model. At the meantime, logistics function has been regarded as the key to maintaining the relationship between the enterprise and its suppliers and customers. Optimal logistics management helps the enterprise attain the following operative goals: quick response to customer demand, reducing risk variance, minimizing the inventory level, integrating logistics service, improving the quality of the product, and lengthening the product life cycle.
However, because of the difference in the business environment each enterprise operates in, different logistics management strategy should be adopted to optimize its organizational performance. This thesis examines the interdependencies of the environmental uncertainties, the logistics strategy and the operational performance in order to determine whether the business environment has an impact on the logistics strategy adopted by different enterprises. In addition, this study further explores the matching relationship of logistic strategy and the business environment, and its effect on operational performance. This research body targeted at the top 1000 enterprises listed by Common Wealth magazine. The 112 effective feedback gathered were verified by factor analysis, cluster analysis, multivariate analysis of variance, discriminant analysis, chi-square analysis, and t-test, and the following results were obtained:
1. The four different structures hypothesized by this thesis to classify the logistics strategy are applicable to the logistics strategy adopted by the top 1000 manufacturers in Taiwan. These four different types of logistic strategy can provide the academia as well as the industry with new aspect in employing logistics strategy.
2. Environmental uncertainty has significant impact on the enterprise’s choosing as well as drafting of its logistics strategy.
3. Different industry has significant impact on the enterprise’s choosing as well as drafting of its logistics strategy.
4. Different industry has significant impact on the enterprise’s Supply-Demand Environment.
5. When the logistics strategy matches environmental uncertainty, it harnesses higher operational performance than other ill-matched environment-logistics strategy.
(1) In an stable supply but unstable demand environment, an enterprise would achieve significantly better operational performance as the Market-Responsive-Oriented strategy is adopted.
(2) In a stable demand but unstable supply environment, an enterprise would achieve better operational performance as risk-hedging-oriented strategy is adopted.
(3)In an unstable supply and demand environment, an enterprise would attain better operational performance as Agile-oriented strategy is adopted.
(4) In an stable supply and demand environment, an enterprise would elicit better, though not optimal, operational performance as Cost-Efficient-Oriented strategy is adopted.
