The samples were chosen base on the students’ achievement performance, in good progress and steadily well. The content knowledge was focused on the equations of degree one with one variable. The data was collected and analyzed by the qualitative methodology. The results showed that the factors related to the students’ mathematical potentialities included: 1、 ability of meta-cognition:(1)to choose explicit steps or strategic (2)to point out and correct the mistake (3)to differentiate the rationality of question or answers (4)faster speed to problem solution (5)to think about the uniqueness with higher level of thought in problem solution (6)to associate with similar problems in thinking. 2、ability of basis operation with symbol:(1)to operate with symbol easily. 3、ability of connection with symbol:(1)to connect with proper symbol (2)to list the equation just in time. 4、ability of connection with cognition:(1)faster reaction(2)good ability to solve the problem. This study suggested eleven essential items and strongly recommended the interviewing data as a vital for the assessment of mathematical abilities. Key words:mathematical potential, assessment, meta-cognition, mathematical ability. 施皓耀 2004 學位論文 ; thesis 144 zh-TW
