Three materials of various fiber amounts, neat PBT, 9vol.% and 19vol.% short fiber-reinforced PBT composites, were used in this study. It is found that the addition of short glass fibers can significantly strengthen neat PBT. The fracture toughness of neat PBT was significantly increased by the addition of short glass fibers. However, the variation of injection molding design parameter had little effect on the tensile properties and fracture toughness. The strength depends on the thickness of the layer where fibers oriented in the loading direction. The layer thickness is strongly affected by the fibre amount. The prediction model was built by the PBT and verified with Taguchi and PC/GF experimental data. The result finds the predicted value is close to experiment value and shows the prediction model can be used to predict other short fibre-reinforced compsites’ tensile properties and fracture toughness.
