ABSTRACT
This article was probing the micro-motor industry which produce 5.6 billions units in year 2000 and carried over 400 billions NT dollars in production values. Micro-motor was
utilizing in IT & communication equipment, industry machinery, Opto-Electronic equipment, stereo equipment, automobile electronics, as well as home electronics. The Japanese
micro-motor enterprises took 83.9% of the market, reached to 4.724 billions units in total. The production values summed up to 1092.979 billion Japanese Yuan (roughly 10 billion U.S. dollars). Japanese enterprises hold dominated position in the micro-motor industry.
The Key Success Factors behind this global domination can be summed up with
a). Market demand, after World War II Japanese enterprises continuously released leading products to the world. Those products included the early stage toys, stereo system, VCR, camera and the more recent products such as printer, floppy disk, hard drive and CD-ROM which all required micro-motor. b).Excellent mechanic parts such as magnet, accurate arbor and core, accurate pressurized parts, c).Outstanding production equipments. d). Experts’ participation and new talent joined to work together. The Japanese ethnic characteristic fits perfectly well in the industry that required extreme accuracy.
From this article, Taiwanese micro-motor industry’s Key Success Factors can be summed up in the points below: a).Grasp demand and long term strategy planning. b).Be in charge of the micro-motor application feature. c).Developed production expertise. d). Professional management, creating enterprise culture to attract talents.
Taiwan started to have its own global leading products such as scanner, DVD player, and digital camera. Taiwan''s micro-motor industry concentrated in particular field with such domain know how to compete globally. Professional management and long-term
investor created company culture to attract talent and searched upper level supplier as well as down stream client to form strategy coalition to build up production capacity. The final goal is to create strategy alliance with Japanese enterprises to build up global competitive strength.
The great goal was to start building a backbone structure for this industry. Expecting long-term investor to create a “Flagship enterprise” leading the Taiwan’s micro-motor industry to sail into the future.
