The purpose of the study were to know the elementary school students, and parents, needs toward physical education courses in Hsindum city of Taipei county; and to compare the differences of students, genders, sports club experiences, sports experiences and parents, gender, social economic statuses, and exercise habits to the differences of the needs toward physical education courses. The subjects for this study were 800 students and 800 parents, which makes the total number of the subjects 1600. 1461 subjects had completed the present investigation. “Students, and parents, Needs toward Physical Education Courses Questionnaire ” which was made by Chang-Shu Ching (2002) was used. And an in-depth interview was also processed.
The results of the statistic analysis were as followed:
1. Students, and parents, needs toward physical education courses:
(1) Physical education
For students, the first need was needs of sports ability; the last need was needs of teachers, teaching. As for parents, the first need was needs of relaxing methods and the last need was needs of teachers, teaching.
(2) Sports activities inside school
For students, the highest level was needs of special values and the last was needs of execution of sport legislation. For parents, the highest need was needs of execution of sport legislation and the last was needs of programming activities.
(3) Sports activities outside school
For students, the needs of student counseling and affective-goal were highest, and finally needs of programming sports. For parents, the highest need was needs of student counseling and benefit of sports, and the last was needs of programming sports.
2. Differences between different variables of students on physical education courses:
(1) Differences between different variables of students on physical education, there were significant differences between genders on needs of sports ability. The differences between different sports club experiences and different sports experiences were significant on needs of physically as well as mentally and affective-goal learning and needs of sports ability.
(2) Differences between different variables of students on participating in sports activities inside school, there were significant differences between genders on needs of special values. The differences between different sports club experiences and different sports experiences were significant on needs of special values and affective-goal learning.
(3) Differences between different variables of students on participating in sports activities outside school, no differences were found between genders, but the differences between different sports experiences and different sports club experiences were significant on needs of students counseling and affective-goal, and needs of programming sports.
3. Differences between different variables of parents on physical education coursed:
(1) Differences between different variables of parents on physical education, no differences were found between genders and parents with different exercise habits. The differences between parents with economic statuses were significant on needs of ability development, and needs of relaxing methods.
(2) Differences between different variables of parents on participating in sports activities inside school, no significant differences were found between genders and parents with different exercise habits. But parents with different social economic statuses had significant differences on needs of special competitive values and needs of execution of sport legislation.
(3) Differences between different variables of parents on participating in sports activities outside school, there were significant differences between genders on needs of programming sports. The differences between parents with different social and economic statuses were significant on needs of student counseling and benefit of sports. But no significant differences were found between parents with different exercise habits were significant on needs of student counseling and benefit of sports.
