The purpose of this study was aimed to examine the leisure needs and constraint of the middle-aged and old people. This study was designed to analysis difference demography of middle-aged and old people their difference in leisure need and constrain. The relationship between the leisure need and constraint in this study was considered. This questionnaire was given to residents who are above 40 years old in Taichung city. Random sampling method was used in the study, and 661 effective questionnaire was collected from 27 March to 15 May in 2004. The results was following as:1. On the leisure needs and constraints, the most needed one is “recognize self ”and “lack of leisure information”is the highest one. 2. There is no significance different in sex, marries, education and income in leisure constraints, however the age and job there are. 3. There is significance different among difference demographic in leisure need. 4. There are positive relationship between the leisure need and constraint. Based on finding, this study not only support leisure activities planning suggestion for government and leisure supporter, but also give good advise for future researcher.
