Summary:碩士 === 國立體育學院 === 體育研究所 === 92 === This research aims at understanding how stay-at-home elders in Hsin-chu area spend their free time and their quality of life. This research is based on questimairs and interviews directed at above 60 elders in Hsin-chu area. The collected data were analyzed through t-test and One-Way(ANOVA) analysis with gender, age, marital status , origin of birth , level of education , financial status , etc. as independent variable and quality of life as dependent variable. The following results are obtained: 1.The characteristics of the samples tested The total samples tested were 101 persons, of which 35 were males and.66 females. In terms of age, most of them were 75years old , with 38 persons , and next in number were from 66 to70 years old, with 33 persons. In terns of origin, most of them were Hakka, with 55 persons. In terms of education, the largest number of them was illiterate, with 40 persons. In terms of marital status, the languet number,54 persons, were married. As to their financial status, the largest number , 39 persons , have monthly expenditure of 5000 to 10000 Yen. 2.Use of free time The elders use of free time is analyzed with their gender, age, origin of birth, marital status, level of education, financial status, etc. as variables. The most common leisure activity engaged in by the elders is, first of all, TV watching, which they spend more them 3 hours weekly and next is visiting friends and relatives which they spend 2 to 3 hours a week. 3.Quality of Life The most important variables that influence the elder’s quality of Life are their level of education, their financial situation ad their health condition. And the elder’s level of education influences their quality of life in there areas: meaning of life, power to concentrate, ability to walk, and sex life. The most influential item on the elder’s quality of life is their financial status. There is direct relationship between their financial status and their total degree of satisfaction with their quality of life.
