How to display high dynamic range image on a low dynamic range display device is recently been discussed in previous literatures. High dynamic range images, real or synthetic, typically have luminance with much higher than that of standard output devices, e.g. monitor and printer. Therefore we need a range compression method in order to visualize all the information in the scene, and to produce images that are perceptually accurate.   We present a simple and efficient method for the high dynamic range images to extract illumination from the original image, and to derive distribution of the reflectance. The goal is to perform a simple range compression function on the illumination part while preserving the details to maintain natural appearance.
