It can also increase transportation efficiency and avoid the crowded situation. In order for transmitting information to travellers, the information characteristics and communication systems applicability should be assessed. This study mainly discusses how to choose suitable communication systems to match different kinds of information needs, given the distinct characteristics, limitations, and cost of the communication systems. The traffic information is divided into real-time information relevant for all travelers and personal need information. According to the literature, the Analytical Hierarchy Process can be effectively applied to uncertain situations and multiple criteria decisions. Due to the trade-offs among the communication alternatives and evaluation criteria, it is suitable using AHP to choose the proper alternatives. The questionnaire is designed to investigate the experts’ opinions, which are then applied to set up the priority of communication systems The outcomes indicate that the Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) and mobile networks are the best systems. The promotion and application of DAB still desires the government and enterprises to cooperate with each other. Technically, the mobile networks are ready. But, the terminal equipment and multimedia services should be further enhanced. For the long term plan, the development of traffic information industry is heavily dependent on the assistance from the government.
