Summary: | 碩士 === 國立中興大學 === 昆蟲學系 === 92 === In nature, plants could be attacked by different insects simultaneously. In this study, we assessed the effects of Pieris rapae crucivora (Boisduval) and Myzus persicae (Sulzer) on rape, Brassica campestris. Separate and combined effects of chewing and sucking herbivores on plant growth, reproduction, and chemical compounds were tested using plotted rapes. Results indicated that the flowering onset period of damaged plants is generally longer than that of undamaged rape. The leaf number, flower number, flowering period, and plant height, however, are not significantly different among the treatments. In addition, results also indicated that damage with either chewing or sucking insects can reduce fitness of host plants. Chemical analyses revealed that water content of damaged rape is higher than of undamaged rape. There was no significant difference in nitrogen content among treatments. Total glucosinolate contents, however, decrease significantly in damaged plants.
