碩士 === 華梵大學 === 建築學系碩士班 === 92 === The dissertation focuses on the relational analysis of lifestyle and substantial environment with the space-life and societal analysis of Hadjicolaou and Lefebvre to understand the social essence of space usage. Secondly, the dissertation attempt to quote the concept of “behavioral set situation” represented by anthropology A. Rapoport (space-culture) as another angle to understand how substantial space is related to cultural factors (values, concepts, customs, system, living behavior) in daily lives. It provides intrinsic understanding of space field from “space significance” analysis for possible verification or revision on research methods and for serving as the secondary objective of this dissertation. The author applies ” Governor-General Residence” for case study by observing the lifestyle presented at a given space of the Japanese occupation in Taiwan. Under Japanese regime the “cultural civilization” belief serves as a subordinate objective of this dissertation. In practical discussion of this dissertation, “cultural civilization” of the Japanese belief in lifestyle is first discussed, to analyze possible activities or items for such a lifestyle. Secondly, analyze the life structure through recorded activities of the references. Third, take governor-general residence as example to reconstruct former space range and movements according to above stated lifestyle, to help the understanding of former space structure and space usage. The life space and space significance of “cultural civilization” is used to verify or revise the beliefs of former anthropologist and provide reference for future development on space research. Taiwan governor-general residence was used to accommodate foreign visitors (royal or imperial family, and foreign ambassadors) and provide a space for Taiwan ruling prestige. The fundamental key to life was civilized life with “advanced European style” characteristic as the ideal lifestyle of higher authority; hence “governor-general residence” is the space to fulfill “civilized lifestyle.”
