The purpose of this thesis is to understand whether university students purchase digital cameras for academic needs or for personal pleasure. The sampling population for this study is the Fu Jen Catholic University students. Data were collected via questionnaires distributed among The statistical methods for this study are frequency distributions, relative frequency distribution, Chi-square test for independence, goodness of fit test, reliability, Ridit analysis, Conjoint analysis, Chernoff Face, and multidimensional scaling analysis. These statistical methods were used to explore the university students'' purchasing behavior and preference for different digital cameras. This study shows that of those interviewed, the digital camera owners were unsatisfied with the warranty period. This study also reveals the preferred location of purchase, preference towards a particular camera, and the acceptable prices for a selection of cameras. The most important deciding factor when purchasing a digital camera is the "pixel" count, followed by where the camera is manufactured (nation of origin). The least important deciding factor was the appearance of the camera. The professional users'' preference for a camera, as well as their use of the camera, differs greatly from that of average users.
