A previously developed oil spill model system for coastal waters in the mid-western Taiwan was modified and improved in this study. Construction of the model system is based on the hydrodynamic and pollutant transport model developed by Fen (2003). The system interface developed by J.C. Chen for wrapping the computation code, i.e. Fortran, and for scientific visualization and data analysis, is based on Delphi Professional 6.
The model system was improved in three aspects: (1) accuracy enhancement of current calculation; (2) simulation of oil movement for a number of oil elements; (3) modification of the system interface for presentation of oil movement for several oil elements. Besides, sensitivity analysis was made for a number of model parameters, including the initial fraction of volatile components; dispersion coefficient and the number of oil elements. Finally, system demonstration and case study were presented.
