However , the bulk-behavior of forming and machining used as the manufacturing basis of RPC products has not been investigated . This thesis is thus concentrates on the study of the characteristics of forming and/or machining RPC bulk . The mixture of rice-husk powders and PVA solution is fabricated into RPC bulk in this study . Two schemes including flat compression and cone-flat pressing are utilized for the forming of RPC bulk . The tests of physical and mechanical properties and machinability of the RPC bulk are also implemented . The test results show that the con-flat pressing scheme gives the most effective result for the physical and mechanical properties and machinability of the RPC bulk . However , the density- hardness- and strength-gradient of the specimen is unavoidable and they are dependent on the depth of the green part . Consequently , these characteristics of the RPC bulk obtained can be applied not only to the design and fabrication of RPC products with irregular of asymmetric geometry but also to the forming of other powder-based composites .
