Since the interference problem exists in a Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) system, resource allocation becomes very important for the improvement of system performance. This work presents a weight-based OVSF code assignment scheme for large-scale wireless mobile networks. The scheme takes advantage of the reuse patterns of primary and secondary codes to improve the call allocation performance. Under the orthogonal code limitation, a weight function is designed for the process of code selection to improve code assignment for multi-cell systems. Both the intra-cell and inter-cell models contribute to the weight values that are record in the interference table. The experimental results demonstrate that our weight-based code assignment strategy is more efficient than other schemes in terms of the code blocking and primary code utilization rates.
