After carefully evaluating those methods addressed in the literatures, a graphical determining one containing much more physical meanings was proposed by the author at first. A series consolidation tests were then performed to evaluate the accuracy of the proposed method and to compare the results obtained from all the methods. Results from this thesis indicate that most of the previous methods addressed in the literature are useful only under certain specific conditions. However, only the method proposed by the author can produce better results even under the conditions that stress histories may cause serious problems to the others.
