The purpose of using rumble strips is to warn the drivers who are in a special dangerous condition on the traveled way by means of noise or vibration. For the time being, most design of rumble strips are based on more human’s perception phase and less scientific analysis. Therefore, it is very interesting to study the dynamic responses and realize the riding comfort condition when vehicles run over the rumble strips. The paper, first assumed the compact vehicle’s suspension system as a single degree of freedom (SDOF) system, and then the techniques of Fourier series analyses were applied to solve the equation of motion, with the aid of self-developed computer programs. In order to prove the correctness of the equations of motion as well as the designed programs aforementioned, another computer program for graphical solution as well as Duhamel’s integral were coded to simulate the responses of the SDOF system. Comparing the output from both programs, it is found that the data from the two methods are deviating slightly from each other. Therefore, they are concluded that the solutions for the rumble strips programs by using Fourier series analyses are feasible. The peak absolute vertical accelerations of the vehicle corresponding to varied moving velocity obtained by the Fourier series analysis were used for rumble strip designs either in determining their spacing or thickness. The JNR’s riding comfort evaluation criteria was also employed in their determination. After a detailed study, this paper finally suggests reasonable thickness of rumble strips, as listed in the following table, for engineering applications. none 詹次洚 2004 學位論文 ; thesis 67 zh-TW
